For one hundred and eleven years,
the Southwest Harbor Public Library
has been an integral part of the community,
providing traditional library services
and education for our children.
We are proud of our Library,
and proud of the community it serves.

For libraries in towns our size in Maine,
we have the third highest circulation
and the second highest children’s program attendance.

We offer numerous programs for adults and children.
Our professional staff keeps
the Library open six days a week.

Our statewide web-based catalog
enables patrons to use over six million books,
DVD’s and other media.
We are a wireless library. You may bring your laptop,
or use our three computer stations
with a high speed Internet connection.
Our new website makes many of our resources available
twenty-four hours a day.

Many, many people use our Library.
Every One of them has helped to shape it.
Our Library is a vital part of the community we serve.

We must now adequately endow
this vibrant institution.

Every One can help.

The Southwest Harbor Public Library
is a library for the public,
but is not totally funded by the town
and we depend upon the community for support.

The generosity of the taxpayers
of the Town of Southwest Harbor
provides 20% of our budget.

We must raise the other 80% ourselves.

Volunteers spend thousands of hours each year
working very hard to do this.
They conduct an Annual Appeal and fundraising events
such as the Book Sales, the Garden Tour,
the Silent Auction and many more.

We have been told that
we are one of the best community libraries in the state
and we know we are the most under-endowed.

We must raise two million dollars
in additional endowment.

We have raised one million dollars already,
through the generosity of volunteers
and friends of the Library.

We must now raise another one million dollars
to ensure the future.

Income from the endowment will then support
almost 40% of our annual expenses.

The Library needs your help
