Useful Links

There are so many book-related sites out there it is a challenge to cull through them all to find the good ones! Below you will find a list of some favorites. Feel free to send in your suggestions

NoveList Plus and MARVEL!
NoveList is the librarian’s secret! This is one of our favorite sites for helping patrons find new books to read, find the next book in a series, or find read-a-likes. NoveList is a multifacted and very in-depth database part of the online electronic resource, MARVEL. Scroll down the list of databases and click on NoveList Plus. You will need your library card number to log in. While you are at it, check out the other databases on MARVEL. You’ll find everything from professional journals and current newspaper articles to free eBooks, the Maine Memory Network, and online encyclopedias.

Fantastic Fiction
With biographies of over 30,000 authors and listings of over 350,000 titles Fantastic Fiction is a treasure-trove of information. This site is not as extensive as NoveList which makes it much easier to navigate. We often turn to Fantastic Fiction for quick information about upcoming publications and the order of books in a series.

Social media for bibliophiles! Goodreads integrates your personal library, reading history and reading future with your contacts and Facebook friends. Infinitely searchable, you can learn not only about books you might want to read, but join discussions groups, online book groups, make comments on your friends’ book lists and post reviews.

Maine Student Book Award
A joint project of the Maine Library Association, Maine Association of School Libraries, and Maine Reading Association. The Maine Student Book Award is designed to expand literary horizons of students in grades 4-8 by encouraging them to read, evaluate, and enjoy a selection of new books and to choose a statewide favorite by written ballot each spring.

Maine Readers’ Choice Award
