Book Club Summer 2014 reads

Each June our book club takes a break to enjoy the brief but lovely Maine summer and indulge in 3 months of reading whatever we want. Our September meeting ends up as a recap on all of our summer reading before we reconvene and start up our monthly meetings again. Here are some of the books our group of about 10 read this year:

Southwest Harbor Public Library and Goodreads

You may have noticed we quote a lot of book information from Goodreads. If you have never checked out the site, please do! It is a book lover’s utopia where you can research books to read then add them to shelves for organization. You can build lists of titles that you want to read and then check them off as completed when you finish them. Goodreads will give you suggestions of other books and authors to read based on the ones you have previously added. You can connect with friends and see what they are reading, join discussion groups and online communities, sign up for free advanced reader’s copies from your favorite author, read and write reviews, play book trivia and so much more.

To start exploring, check out the Library’s Goodreads page by clicking HERE. You’ll find your SWHPL librarians’ all-time favorite books, what we are reading now and what local book clubs have read. If you start an account, add us as a friend for our updates.

NPR’s Guide to Science Fiction & Fantasy

I came across this Readers’ Advisory gem the other day and found it quite helpful, as I am not very familiar with either of these genres and have trouble recommending books to patrons looking for scifi or fantasy titles. Check it out and let us know what you think.
