LINKS TO ALMOST EVERYTHING
You can click on many of the leaf links below to find information about the activities at the Library. If the explanation is short, the leaf is not a link, and all information about the subject is right here!
Open Doors...Open Minds is a synopsis of our mission statement: "The Southwest Harbor Public Library encourages the enjoyment of reading and the pleasure of life-long learning by welcoming all through its doors." Our shared vision for the library is that our doors are open to everyone, and inquisitive minds will thrive here. We invite you to open the door to a myriad of ways of opening your mind. You are always welcome.
A lot goes on in this small library.
One night last March…
5 boys were using their laptops at a table upstairs…
6 small children were reading to the patient Reader Dog…
8 children were playing Dungeons & Dragons…
9 people were attending a Chamber of Commerce meeting in the Clark Room...
10 knitters were knitting in The Katherine R. Heimbold Reading Room…
18 children and parents were playing board games together…
20 women were attending the Women’s History Project Financial Seminar by the fire in the Reading Room…
Several patrons were browsing the catalog and shelves…
And…
Friends of the Library volunteers were in the basement sorting donated books for the Used Book Sale the following summer!
The word, "blog" comes from weblog. Wiktionary defines it as, "Personal or corporate website in which the author writes, as their (thoughts) on a given subject evolve, their opinions, impressions, etc., so as to make them public and receive reactions and comments about them." The ‘Bary, a blog by our friend, Michael Shook, is about "libraries in general and the Southwest Harbor Public Library in particular." We must, of course, remind you that views expressed in articles linked to our web site do not necessarily express those of The Southwest Harbor Public Library, but do go see. This is truly a reader’s blog.
